Tecnottica Consonni has installed a new line for the production of lenses for astronomical use.

For Tecnottica Consonni the recovery on foreign markets starts with new investments to develop production for the aerospace sector.
The firm, based in Calco (Milan) and specialized in precision optics for various applications, has just installed a new line for the production of astronomical and aerospace optics opening up to new market opportunities.
With an export share around 30%, the orders are therefore growing in the aerospace sector as well as in “machine vision” (industrial control) and also in “security and defense” for monitoring devices on camera.

“Since October, work has grown with pending orders that will keep our production department busy until April with a perspective on 2021 that looks very good at the moment. This is due to the fact that at the beginnig of 2020 we had planned investments for the purchase of machines for large lenses intended for astronomy and, despite the pandemic, the investment went ahead with the new installation that are now operative.” says Angelo Fasoli , technical manager of the company.
2020 was not a good year if compared to previous ones, indeed the company reports a 15% drop in turnover compatible with the spring lockdown where the production was completely stopped.
“Our analysis tell us that, considering those three weeks of total lockdown and a further period of reduced activity, we are actually in line with 2019 results and maybe even better if we consider the effective amount of worked hours.”
In the last six months the company has acquired new US and scandinavian customers, hand in hand with the increase in investments to improve communication and marketing.
Investments on physical fairs are now transferred to the partecipation at online and advertising events through websites, social channels and thematic platforms.
A test case will be the partecipation in March to virtual SPIE Photonics West that will replace the traditional physical appointment.
